Kaspersky Lab have a wider motorsport interest than simply being heavily involved in F1 as Scuderia Ferrari’s headline sponsor. Many will have seen Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikonnen in their Kaspersky branded overalls but fewer will have paid attention to the lower orders of the Blancpain Endurance Am Cup, where Garry Kondakov and Alex Moiseev were similarly attired last season when running a Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 courtesy of AF Corse.
This season Kondakov and Moiseev return, with Ricardo Ragazzi in tow to Blancpain in the Endurance Am Cup but this time in their own right as Kaspersky Motorsport. The vehicle of choice for the 2016 campaign will again be a Ferrari 458 built by AF Corse, but not run by them. Here, Alex Moiseev talks about the decision to form the Kaspersky Motorsport team, with support from AF Corse, rather than simply be a customer team.
The Blancpain Endurance Cup season trio of Garry Kondakov (Bronze), Riccardo Ragazzi (Silver), and Moiseev (Bronze), will be joined by Gold-rated Marco Cioci as a one-off for the Total 24 Hours of Spa, a move perhaps indicative of Kaspersky Motorsport’s future intentions.
The team’s stated goal is that of targeting the Am Cup podium in 2016, but having Cioci in the lineup will bump them up into the hotly contested Pro-Am category. Ambitious perhaps, but not impossible for a team that is, by its own slightly coy admission ‘still learning’. That said, the Kaspersky outfit has a valuable amount of solid experience, having finished the Spa 24 in 2015 after leading their class for a good proportion of the race before encountering difficulties.
