Attard and Sims Back for British GT Title Tilt

Attard and Sims Back for British GT Title Tilt

Reigning British GT Drivers’ Champion, Marco Attard, has today confirmed that he will be returning to the series in 2015 to defend his crown. The Surrey-based driver will be campaigning the same Ecurie Ecosse-entered BMW Z4 GT3, run by Barwell Motorsport, which he piloted to two race victories, the overall title and the Blancpain Gentleman Driver Trophy championship in 2014.

We are also delighted to confirm that BMW factory professional driver, Alexander Sims, will be partnering Marco again as he strives for a second title in a row. Alexander was unable to share in this year’s title success as he had to miss one round due to clashing commitments (hence finishing 3rd in the standings), but the plan is that he will be able to complete the full season in 2015.

The Ecurie Ecosse car completes Barwell Motorsport’s line-up in British GT, having previously announced that its sister car will be campaigned by Jon Minshaw and Phil Keen. This will give Barwell a much better shot at claiming its second Teams Championship title, with two points-scoring cars in the mix.  The car will be run under the Ecurie Ecosse powered by Black Bull banner, with continued backing from The Calais Wine Superstore, John Clark Motor Group, SMA Group, and Ragus.

Chris Needell, Barwell Motorsport Commercial Director: “It’s terrific to have Marco and Alexander back again, and a privilege to be defending this year’s championship title. Marco has proved that he is one of the very best Bronze drivers out there, and that hard work and dedication does pay off. We will be able to hit the ground running next season, and with Alexander on board this combination will no doubt be right in the mix again.”

Marco Attard: “It’s fantastic news that we can come back to defend the 2014 British GT crown, Ecurie Ecosse and Barwell are definitely the team to be with and will gives us the best chance in 2015. We also have BMW factory driver Alexander back on board for the full season, who was key to me winning in 2014, let’s hope that this year he gets the reward that he deserves.  2014 was a stunning year and a great achievement which was only due to the huge team effort!  I would also like to thank the many sponsors including Black Bull, John Clark Motor Group, and The Calais Wine Superstore who have made the whole Ecurie Ecosse 2015 programme achievable.”

Alexander Sims: “Firstly I am very thankful to BMW for the opportunity to continue with them. 2014 was a great year and I am extremely excited to be embarking on a very similar programme in 2015. Marco was brilliant to work with and proved himself to be one of the best amateur drivers on the grid. I am extremely excited to be back again with him and the Ecurie Ecosse/Barwell Motorsport team, I’m sure we can be very competitive again and fight for another championship!”
