SRO Announce 2015 Blancpain Calendar

SRO Announce 2015 Blancpain Calendar

The 2015 Blancpain GT Series schedule revealed in Azerbaijan on Sunday 2nd November features a slight amendment to the Endurance Calendar previously announced at the Spa 24h, the Paul Ricard meeting moves a week, plus significant change for the Sprint Series.

The schedule changes for next year’s Blancpain Sprint Series are substantial; even though five out of seven of this year’s venues will remain, the meeting dates change and the now missing Zandvoort and Slovakia ring are to be replaced Misano and Moscow. N.b. the Moscow City track mooted is not the existing Moscow Raceway near Volokolamsk.

Plus, there is some serious cash to be won too. The Sprint Series prize pot increases, and the fifth season of Blancpain Endurance Series sees the introduction of significant prize money to further ‘encourage the teams to participate in all 12 races of the Blancpain GT Series‘. 2015 will see the prize funds for each round of the Sprint and Endurance Series both stand at a cool €100,000 making the season total SRO Prize Fund €1.3 million, which is a nice chunk of change.

Note that this €1.3 million in prize money over and above the ‘event support starting fees’ – i.e. teams get paid simply to take the start – made available for both the Moscow and Baku events, which amounts to a further €1.45 million. AND this doesn’t include the costs of air freighting the cars to Baku that the event promoter also covers.

Further note that teams entering the complete Blancpain GT Series are eligible for the full amount of prize money and those that enter one or t’other are limted to a 50% pay-out.
