Reigning Champions Optimum Announce Mann and Murrells for British GT4
British GT4 champions Optimum Motorsport will run with Tania Mann and George Murrells in the British GT Championship in 2014, and choose the new Ginetta G55 GT4 as their weapon.
Australian Mann will make her British GT debut in the car, as her experience has largely been with the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, while Murrells has experience in the series. He raced a few rounds in 2012 in a GT3 Ginetta and has plenty of experience with the brand in other events – he won the 24 Hours of Dubai with Optimum in 2012.
“I’m incredibly excited to be teaming up with George and Optimum Motorsport for a brilliant year in the British GT,” says Mann. “For me there are three attractions to the British GT. Number one, the calendar is amazing. The UK circuits they cover are brilliant and even more exciting for me this year is that they are going to my favourite circuit – Spa. Number two, the quality of the grid is amazing. There are some incredibly talented drivers I can learn from so I can grow as a driver. Number three? From a sponsor’s point of view the UK and Global exposure is fantastic. Oh, and the fans here are fantastic!”
“I’m really pleased to have got the deal together to race in British GT4 with Optimum and Tania,” believes Murrells. “I’ve got a great relationship with the team, we’ve had success together and won races in the G55 and GT4 G50 cars together in the past, so we are hoping for a great year. In Tania I’ve got a really promising co driver and we should get quicker as a pair over the season. It’s looking to be the most competitive GT4 field for a number of years, with a variety of marques and some quick drivers, so we’ll be eager to see where we line up at Oulton and look to move forward from there.”
Team boss Shaun Goff has great confidence in the line up.
“Tania is new to GT racing but no stranger to a powerful GT car,” he points out. “She’s spent a season in the competitive Porsche Carrera Cup GB. She’s very determined and willing to learn which is why I’m very happy to welcome George back to the team as co-driver. He’s had extensive success in Ginettas, including the Ginetta Challenge Champion and the Dubai 24 hours. I’m excited for the team to begin testing and looking forward to Easter weekend at Oulton Park!”
