Having already announced Rick Parfitt Jnr. and Tom Oliphant last week, Century Motorsport today announced Morten Dons and Aleksander Schjerpen will join their British GT4 assault. The Scandinavian pair – Dons is Danish, Schjerpen Norwegian – will drive a Ginetta G55 GT4.
Team principal Nathan Freke knows Dons well.
“We’ve built up a good relationship with Morten during the last couple of months,” says Freke. “He is very professional in his approach to racing and learning the car. At Donington, he handled the G55 very well, despite not having driven a car with downforce and that much power before. We can’t wait to have Morten with us for his debut in British GT.”
And Dons has a positive feeling, too.
“When I met with Century Motorsport during my Donington test, I had a good talk with Nathan about the team, experience and the whole setup,” he adds. “After this, it was basically a question of finding the best solution for both of us. Century Motorsport is a very experienced and professional team, and I am looking forward to joining the grid with such a skilled team behind me. I am in good hands with Nathan and the guys, no doubt about that.”
Schjerpen has the necessary experience to do well, reckons Freke.
“Although I have only met Aleksander briefly when we both tested at Donington, I know that he has got several years of experience running a Ginetta G50 GT4 in the Norwegian GT championship. I am confident that we will be a strong pair, and with the new G55 I could not wish for a better package.”
Freke also hinted at a big goal for Century in the future – Le Mans.
“I guess it’s needless to say that I am very excited about the whole deal. It is a huge step towards my aim to race at Le Mans in 2017, and I am happy to be able to work with some of the best people this season.”
