Following a brace of critical blows for the Vita4one Italy team, the Matteo Bobbi run team has been forced to step down from the Avon Tyres British GT Championship and Blancpain Endurance Series. Firstly the team were hit by the termination of their contract with Gentleman racer Jay Palmer, leaving Vita4one without a financier for their British GT campaign. Then crucially, a fire for their Ferrari during the Silverstone round of the Blancpain Endurance Series has the left the team with a hole in their finances, that means they have to rebuild the 458 Italia from their own purse.
“The contract with Jay was stopped, and we are trying to understand what happened.” Bobbi was recently quoted as saying in Autosport Magazine. “That and the fire, have put us in a very bad economic situation, because we were not insured for that damage, and it does not make economic sense to continue with just one programme.”
Whilst the future may seem bleak for the Italy-based team run by the former Formula One tester, there is hope on the horizon. “We are repairing our car in our workshops, but we have no plans right no to race it.” Bobbi added. “We will have to see what comes up over the winter to see if we can continue as a team.”
