Success at Last in Silverstone 500

Success at Last in Silverstone 500

Finally we got the result we deserved!

We qualified third in British GT4 and seventh overall in GT4, I had a fantastic start and by the end of the hanger straight I was first in British GT4 and second overall in GT4. However this was short lived, after being bullied out the way by the quicker European cars I settled down and concentrated on keeping the British GT4 lead – short lived once again after being pushed wide at Brooklands by Declan Jones.

Things went from bad to worse when I missed the opportunity to pit as the safety car board came out seconds after I passed the pit lane entrance, we were a lap down after our pit stop and had a lot of ground to make up. A second safety car was deployed and Rick came in from a storming stint to hand the car back over to me. I knew we had a lot of work to do to get the result we needed, I can honestly say it was the hardest race I’ve ever done, I came in after an hour to hand the car over to rick for the last stint.

Rick drove fantastically not putting a foot wrong and putting in consistent fast times, luckily due to our early stop we had now done our mandatory three pit-stops and were the only GT4 team to have done so. This meant that when the APO car pitted we took the British GT4 lead and third overall in GT4 and kept the car there until the flag. To finish third overall with the much quicker European cars was fantastic and a great confidence boost for everyone.

Even though we weren’t on the top step we were still the leading British GT4 car and the only British car on the Podium, it was a well-deserved result for myself, Rick and the whole team. I just want to thank the whole Optimum Motorsport Team and everyone involved for all their hard work, this result has defiantly lifted everyone’s spirits after the frustrating start to the season we have had!

Thank you to all my sponsors for their support, Groundhog UK Ltd, Genquip, ET Fashions and David Mason Watches.

Rick and I will be back in action and fighting for the Championship lead at Snetterton in less than 3 weeks time with two one-hour sprint races, so come along and support us and the team!

I am now preparing for Rockingham this weekend where I will be driving for FauldSport and Partnering Flick Haigh in the Britcar Endurance Series.
